Submission Rules

Submission Rules

  1. KEEP COPIES OF YOUR WORK; IF IT IS REJECTED, IT IS DELETED.WE DO NOT KEEP ANY COPIES. All submissions must be accompanied by a complete disclaimer. If a suitable disclaimer is not included, the site administrators reserve the right to add a disclaimer.  Repeat offenders may be subject to further action up to and including removal of stories and account.
    Sample Disclaimer
Disclaimer: All publicly recognizable characters, settings, etc. are the property of their respective owners. The original characters and plot are the property of the author.  The author is in no way associated with the owners, creators, or producers of any media franchise.  No copyright infringement is intended.
  2. Stories must be submitted to the proper category. If there is an appropriate sub-category, DO NOT add your story to the main category. The submission form allows you to choose multiple categories for your story, and we worked very hard to add that functionality for you. So please do NOT add your story multiple times!
  3. Canon compliancy itself will be evaluated on a case by case basis. The approval team may take into consideration whether or not the story could happen based on Suzanne Collin's defined universe, as opposed to whether it would happen. That is to say, your story does not necessarily have to be what we as an admin team believe she would write next, but it should be evident from your own writing that the scenario you are writing about could grow from canon. Clearly this will be based somewhat on the talent of the author, but should also come from an acknowledgment of the books on which the fiction is based.Examples: If an author chooses to pair Katniss with Gale after Hunger Games:Book One, the fact that events in Catching Fire would occur regardless of said pairing, should be considered when developing characterizations and plot. If Katniss and Gale were to run off together, then don't forget how that would change the outcome of the story.
  4. A number of authors have requested that fans refrain from writing fan fiction based on their work. Therefore submissions will not be accepted based on the works of P.N. Elrod, Raymond Feist, Terry Goodkind, Laurell K. Hamilton, Anne McCaffrey, Robin McKinley, Irene Radford, Anne Rice, and Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb. Not that these have anything to do with Hunger Games but ANYTHING could happen with crossovers!
  5. Stories will be allowed 2 to 3 weeks before being accepted or declined. Once you have a story up it will take a considerably less amount of time to be posted. It may seem like along time but the Staff Betas have lives, jobs, families, etc. too.
  6. If you need to find a Beta to help you with your story, Please place an add in the Fanfiction Forum!
  7. TheGirlonFire.com site accepts all ships, which means that if you want the characters to be living in the year 2009, you can do that. If you want Gale to be the chosen tribute in the 74th Hunger Games instead of Peeta, you can do that. If You want to have Bella and Edward Cullen to show up in the story and take out President Snow, You can do that! Anything can happen, just make sure to file your stories in the appropriate category.
  8. Correct grammar and spelling are expected of all stories submitted to this site. The site administrators are not grammar Nazis. However, the site administrators reserve the right to request corrections in submissions with a multitude of grammar and/or spelling errors. If such a request is ignored, the story will be deleted.
  9. Story Standards:Spelling: Any story that has more than 10 spelling mistakes for every thousand words will be declined. Spelling mistakes may include a major character's name, a location name, any other important HUNGER GAMES element, or other commonly misspelled or misused words. Grammar: Any story that has more than 20 major grammar errors for every thousand words will be declined. Major errors include, but may not be limited to, capitalization, punctuation, quotations, verb tenses, dialogue formatting, proper and varied sentence structure, and the use of Netspeak. Quality: Stories may be rejected due to overall quality. This may include, but is not limited to, lack of original plot (including plot conventions that are frequently submitted to the archive, even if well-written), clumsy sentences, choppy organization, no explanation for characters being out of character, and any other factor the Staff deems to not meet the Standard of Quality.
  10. Length: All story submissions must be no less than 500 words. This policy applies to one-shots and each chapter of a multichapter story. Author's notes, quotes or song lyrics used to frame a story will not be included in the word count. Plagiarism is defined as copying the work of another author, in part or in whole. Paraphrasing can also be considered plagiarism; as long as it is considerate to the work and author,it may be permitted. The Staff will investigate all charges of plagiarism. Stories found to be plagiarized will be deleted, and offending authors may be banned from the site.
  11. "Please read", "Untitled", etc. are not acceptable titles or summaries.Stories submitted to the archive must take prior canon into consideration. Characters which we are familiar with through Suzanne Collin's writing should not act out of character for no discernible reason. AU stories must have a reason for creating an alternative universe. AU stories will be given a wider berth, but if the story wanders too far it will cannot be considered fanfiction, but rather just fiction, and will be rejected.
  12. All stories must be rated correctly and have the appropriate warnings. All adult rated stories are expected to have warnings. After all, they wouldn't have that rating if there wasn't something to be warned about! The site administrators recognize that there is an audience for these stories, but please respect those who do not wish to read them by labeling them appropriately. Please note: Stories containing adults having sex with minors are strictly forbidden.
  13. Stories with multiple chapters should be archived as such and NEVER as separate stories. Upload the first chapter of your story, then go to Manage Stories in your account to add additional chapters. If you have trouble with this, please contact the site administrator or ask a friend to help you.
  14. GEN - Suitable for General Readership under 16
  15. Means suitable for General readership - the "over sixteen" part merely exists to stress the point that I don't want anyone under 16 years old registering here. "Suitable for General Readership" - Worksafe, your boss or professor or teacher, or parent might read this over your shoulder and not bat an eye.
  16. MGC - Mildly Graphic Content
  17. A few curse words and sexual innuendos here and there. A little violence, but nothing that you probably wouldn't see on your local 8pm prime time TV show. Might raise a few eyebrows here and there. What can I say? People are "conservative" about certain things.
  18. R-AC - Restricted - Adult Content/Language
  19. Definitely not safe for work or school. Strong language and violence is usually par for the course here. Some sexual content to be expected but nothing too way out of the way there.
  20. XGSV - Extremely Graphic Sex/Violence - Mature Readership Only!
  21. Recommended for over 18 readership. Very graphic sex and or violence. This is usually where PWP (Porn Without Plot) would fall. When I say Violence - I mean so graphic it makes you cringe.
  22. As much as possible, spoiler warnings are expected on all stories. For categories with serialized content, such as series of books or television series, spoilers are mandatory for the current book and/or most recent book. An appropriate spoiler warning to place in your summary would be: Spoilers for Catching Fire. DO NOT do anything like this: Spoilers for the one where Katniss kills everyone in District 4.(Not a real spoiler, but you get the point)

Submissions found to be in violation of these rules may be removed and the author's account suspended at the discretion of the site administrators and/or moderators. The site administrators reserve the right to modify these rules as needed.
